Psychology referrals on the Central Coast & in Hornsby
A clear, collaborative referral pathway for your adult patients — in‑person in Gosford, in Hornsby, or via telehealth across NSW. Reports back to you within one week of completing the initial course.
Thanks for considering MindSure for your patients
At MindSure Psychology, we greatly value the trust you place in us when you refer your patients. We're a boutique, single-clinician practice for adults — nimble, personal, and built for clear, timely communication with referrers. Our goal is to make the referral process as simple, transparent, and clinically efficient as possible.
We see clients in‑person in Gosford (serving the wider Central Coast) and in Hornsby, as well as via telehealth across NSW. Most referrals are seen within 7 days, including evenings and weekends — and your patient sees the same psychologist throughout, no internal handoffs.
One-page PDF for your practice — quick reference covering presenting issues we treat, contact details, and how to send a referral.
From MHTP to report — a clear pathway
Five steps from completing the Mental Health Treatment Plan through to receiving a written progress report. Tap any step to see what happens at each stage and the timing you can expect.
Want to talk it through before, during, or after referral? Phone or email any time — usual same-day reply.
Complete the Mental Health Treatment Plan
During the GP consult, complete the patient's Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) under the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. The MHTP itemises the patient's mental health concerns, treatment goals, and the number of psychology sessions you're recommending in this initial course (up to 6 sessions). The referral does not need to name a specific psychologist — and an MHTP previously addressed to another psychologist can usually still be claimed at MindSure provided the plan is current.
- Patient name, DOB, address, contact
- Presenting concerns or provisional diagnosis
- Treatment goals
- Current medications (especially psychotropics)
- Number of sessions for the initial course (up to 6)
- Provider number, signature, date

What you can expect from working with us
Good outcomes rely on shared care. When you refer to MindSure, the working relationship is designed to be collaborative, prompt, and clinically useful — not just a one-way referral pipeline.
If you ever want to discuss a patient's care, ask about progress, or flag something we should know, the simplest route is a phone call or an email — both are usually answered the same business day.

Four ways to send a referral
Whichever fits your practice's workflow best — all are equally welcome. Patient-delivered referrals are often simplest and avoid any risk of correspondence going astray.
Referrals don't need to be addressed to a specific psychologist — "Dear Psychologist" or "Dear MindSure Psychology" is fine.
Common questions from referrers
Quick answers to what GPs and practice staff most often ask.
How quickly will my patient be seen?⌃
Most patients are seen within 7 days of being referred — including evenings and weekends. We don't currently operate a waitlist.
Patients can check live availability and book directly online, or call us — Gosford: (02) 4313 1656 · Hornsby: (02) 8428 9210.
When will I receive a written report?⌃
Within one week of completing the initial 6-session course, you'll receive a written report covering assessment findings, formulation, therapy focus, treatment response, and recommendations regarding any further sessions.
If a further course of up to 4 sessions is approved, a second written summary follows within one week of those completing — taking the patient through the full 10 rebated sessions available under Better Access.
If anything clinically urgent emerges between sessions, we contact you directly by phone or email.
Can patients be seen before an MHTP is finalised?⌃
Yes. Patients can begin therapy without an MHTP — they simply pay the full session fee until the plan is in place. Once the MHTP is completed and forwarded, Medicare rebates apply from that session onwards.
This is occasionally useful for patients who want to start quickly while a longer GP appointment is pending.
Does the referral need to name a specific psychologist?⌃
No. "Dear Psychologist" or "Dear MindSure Psychology" is sufficient. Even if a previous referral named another psychologist, Medicare rebates can usually still be claimed at MindSure provided the MHTP is current.
My patient needs urgent care — what's the best path?⌃
If the situation is genuinely urgent or involves acute risk, the most appropriate referrals are to NSW Mental Health Line (1800 011 511), the local LHD acute care team, or ED. We're not configured for crisis-team work.
For non-acute presentations where you'd just like the patient seen quickly, give us a call — we can usually offer something within a few days.
Can I phone to discuss a patient before referring?⌃
Yes — please do. A 5-minute call to clarify scope, fit, or urgency is often the quickest way to know whether a referral is worth sending. Phone Gosford on (02) 4313 1656 or Hornsby on (02) 8428 9210, or email [email protected].
Do you accept NDIS, DVA, or WorkCover?⌃
NDIS: Yes — for plan-managed and self-managed participants, for therapeutic mental health-related supports. We don't offer behaviour support plans or functional capacity assessments. More on NDIS.
DVA & WorkCover: Not currently. Veterans are best referred to a DVA-registered psychologist; WorkCover claims to a clinician registered for that scheme.
Do you offer telehealth?⌃
Yes — secure video sessions for adults anywhere in Australia. Medicare rebates apply for telehealth under Better Access. Particularly useful for regional patients, those with mobility issues, or who prefer evening sessions without travel.
Can patients access bulk-billed sessions?⌃
Bulk billing is not currently offered. Standard out-of-pocket cost on weekdays with the Medicare rebate is $141.05 per session. For patients facing significant financial barriers, free or low-cost options include the local PHN-funded headspace centres, Medicare Mental Health (formerly Head to Health), and CCLHD or Sydney NS LHD community mental health services.
What if my patient also wants medication review?⌃
Psychotropic prescribing remains with you (or the treating psychiatrist). We work alongside medication management — and where therapy is highlighting something potentially worth reviewing pharmacologically, we'll flag that in correspondence so you can take it forward.
